Enjoy: to have a good time.

Do you find enjoyment in your personal and professional life? I think it’s really easy if you can focus on the simple pleasures that you experience every day.

For example, my friend Dixie called me to share something that happened to her. She walks every morning and passes the Catamaran hotel on San Diego Bay. She and several guests of the hotel were walking through the gardens when they came upon a young Gardner. He had a great big grin on his face as he watched a black swan peck away at some weeds in the flowerbed.

As they approached him, the Gardner said, “He’s an assistant Gardner. He needs a little more training though.” Dixie said, “Then he flashed all of us a great big smile. And I thought to myself, talk about exuding enthusiasm, loving your job, sharing the joy with others around you. It was so infectious. You should have seen the looks on everyone’s face.”

When you enjoy your job, and life for that matter, it is very easy to find joy. This week focus on enjoying your job and your life. See if by doing that you can create joy for those around you.

“I agree with you about the FUN-damentals of going to work. I look forward to seeing and being with the people I work with every day. I have been here just over five years. I enjoy what I do and feel like I am part of a team.  I am respected and my contributions make a difference here EVERY DAY. Additionally, I have more benefits than I could have dreamed of and am very well compensated. In fact, I am making more money today than I ever have. But a major part of the FUN-damentals of going to work is ATTITUDE. I like coming to work and being with my co-workers and bosses. I definitely have the attitude of gratitude every day.  The part of enjoying my job the most is looking forward to seeing and talking to my co-workers. In terms of fitting into an office structure, this is probably the best job that I have ever had. I have a lot in common with a number of my co-workers and get along well with my bosses. The atmosphere is truly a team environment. As I told one of my bosses, this is the one job I have had where I look forward to coming to work every day.  I have been here now over five years and the time has just flown by. I am very fortunate to be in a position where I am not only compensated better in every aspect, but that I get along so well with my co-workers and bosses. When I walk outside to see my daughter over at our company’s day care facility, I look up at the blue sky and sunshine and am grateful for those little things. They mean a lot and have a great effect on my overall attitude. And, as we have talked about time and time again, attitude is 90 percent of life. Kristen and I feel fortunate to be able to enjoy our little girl, and even put up with her crankiness like this morning. These are the days, and I am enjoying every moment.  Can’t we all be just a little bit more positive. EVERY DAY! As we know, it doesn’t take a lot. All we have to do is just get out of ourselves a little more often, think of our family, friends and co-workers a little more often, and then we will all be singing Ray Stevens’ “Everything is Beautiful!” — Joe Moran
