  • Quick 3 day Getaway!

1st AdventureDrumheller for Dinosaurs – in search of the world’s best-preserved armoured dinosaur at the Royal Tyrrell Museum – located in Canada’s Badlands & a 90 minute drive from Calgary.

  • Actually it’s a nodosaur – likely resembling a cross between a lizard & a lion – but covered in scales – petrified from the snout to the hips – originally 18 ft long & weighing in at about 3000 lbs – this armored plant eater is 110 million years old!

Polar Bear @1:30

2nd Adventure“Up Close & Personal” Polar Bear Safari – long day starting at 0’dark:30 – with 2 hr 15 min private charter jet to Churchill – for 6 + hrs in a tundra buggy – in search of polar bears migrating toward the coast – awaiting the deep freeze-up – to get access to their favorite diet of ringed seals. YUMMY!

  • Saw 12 bears of varying ages & lots of activity – & our “Big Bonus” was seeing young males spar on the icy rocky terrain just in front of us! Some just sat lazing in the balmy 30 degree fall day under cloudy skies – & the forecast for snow flurries never happened!
  • Our day ended with a short stop in town before boarding our flight & arriving back in Calgary at 20:30.

FUN-fact – In 2014, we spent 2 weeks on an arctic cruise and didn’t see anywhere near as many polar bears let alone get as close as we did here!

More FFPolar Bears International live streams the polar bears from the shores of Hudson Bay every fall!

78th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally…

…& the hills are alive…

…with the sound of motorcycles!

…& Harley’s were clearly the “Rulers of the Roads.”

  • We started in Denver seeing our grandson Brayden & his fiance Haley, then on to Boulder to see our niece Cindy, Dave, Sam & April with a stop in Estes Park, CO before arriving in the Black Hills of South Dakota for 6 days.
  • We drove all the Top 10 Scenic Hwys with Needles being the most spectacular & scenic – 14 miles of impressive tall granite peaks & spires, sharp turns & low tunnels.

Highlights included Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Badlands National Park, Hot Springs Mammoth Site, Historic Deadwood where Wild Bill Hickok & Calamity Jane are buried, & Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming.

  • We cruised…8 Scenic Byways (AKA *Pearl Highways) …for 7 National Parks…3 National Monuments…2 State Parks & 2 UNESCO World Heritage sites.

And experienced amazing contrasts of color & landscapes…leftover winter’s white snow clinging to jagged gray-black granite mountain tops…hillsides covered with deep green Pines mixed with lime green Aspen leaves…orange sand surrounding deep red-brown rock formations.

  • Our full moon at the end our trip…was another portentous sign…like our full rainbow in Jackson Hole.

FUN-fact – Navajo Sandstone creates Sahara-like deserts.

More FF – Chris says, “You’re always looking for a *pearl.” And winding along those sweet roads is a guarantee you’ll find one!

  • The whole reason for the trip was Brayden’s graduation from NAU. We are so proud of him!

  • We drove a total of 3675 miles…mostly on two lane highways…from the dry warm desert floor…to the cool snow capped Rocky Mountains…across the plains of Wyoming…to the Elk & San Juan Mountains…& ending back in the dry desert.
  • After leaving Flagstaff we spent 5 days in Torrey, Moab & Vernal, UT before heading to Jackson Hole for our 4 day Grand Teton & Yellowstone Safari.

FUN-fact – Petrified sand dunes…like giant blobs of clay…look as if they belong on the moon.
